Donatella Baglivo’s Tarkovskian Triptych

This triptych comprises three works, three films to tell the story of a man, an exile, a poet. First and foremost, these three moments are linked to the making of “Nostalghia” and to Tarkovsky’s life in Italy, to observe the wondrous process of creation and to hear the words of one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. The three films are available with subtitles in Italian, Russian, English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. Shot on 16mm color negative.

The Encounter Between Donatella Baglivo and Tarkovsky

In the 1980s, Donatella Baglivo meets the famous Russian artist Andrey Tarkovsky, who forms a collaborative relationship with her and becomes her master and spiritual guide. As a result, she makes three films dedicated to him: the only ones in existence anywhere in the world on the life of the great filmmaker, who died in Paris on December 29, 1986. Donatella Baglivo’s Tarkovskian Triptych comprises three fundamental works.

First, “Cinema Is a Mosaic Made of Time” documents an interview at the Centro Palatino in Rome. Second, “A Poet in Cinema” offers an intimate biography of the director.
Finally, “Andrey Tarkovsky in Nostalghia” follows the filming of the Italian masterpiece. These documentaries represent the only existing footage in the world showing Tarkovsky at work.
