Franco Interlenghi – “Chronicle of an Actor”

Born in Rome in 1931, Franco Interlenghi (1931-2015) was one of the brightest discoveries of Italian Neorealism. At just fifteen years old, “taken from the street” by Vittorio De Sica, he became the star of Shoeshine (1946), the Oscar-winning masterpiece that tells the story of post-war Italy through the eyes of two young shoeshine boys. In this documentary, the actor retraces sixty years of his career with Donatella Baglivo: from the fresh-faced young Moraldo in Fellini’s I Vitelloni to collaborations with Antonioni, Monicelli and Bolognini, through to international productions with Mankiewicz (The Barefoot Contessa) and Charles Vidor (A Farewell to Arms). Directed on stage by Luchino Visconti in Death of a Salesman, married since 1955 to actress Antonella Lualdi, Interlenghi traversed the history of Italian cinema with that intense and melancholic acting style that made him one of the most beloved faces of the silver screen.
