In the world of cinema there are faces that belong to eternity. That of Giulietta Masina (San Giorgio di Piano, 1921 – Rome, 1994) is one of them: immense eyes, a smile that wavers between joy and tears, a fragility concealing an indomitable strength. Charlie Chaplin said of her: “She is the actress I admire most.” And it was no coincidence that critics dubbed her “the female Chaplin.” Her love story with Federico Fellini began on the radio, in 1942, when she played Pallina in the adventures written by that young man from Romagna who would become her husband and her director. An artistic and emotional union that lasted a lifetime. With La Strada (1954) and the unforgettable character of Gelsomina, Giulietta conquered the world; with Nights of Cabiria (1957)  that small prostitute with a heart of gold capable of moving anyone she won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Then came Juliet of the Spirits (1965), written by Fellini expressly for her, and finally Ginger and Fred (1986), their last waltz together. When Federico died on 31 October 1993, their lives parted, only to be reunited five months later, on 23 March 1994.
